Why peptides come freeze-dried
Peptides are fragile chains of amino acids, and their bonds can break down when exposed to heat, light, or moisture over time.
Lyophilization—freeze-drying—removes nearly all water from the peptide. This dramatically extends shelf life. A lyophilized peptide stored properly can remain stable for months or years. The same peptide in liquid form might degrade in weeks.
What bacteriostatic water is
The most common reconstitution fluid is bacteriostatic water (BAC water). It's sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added as a preservative.
That benzyl alcohol prevents bacterial growth after the vial has been punctured. Once you've stuck a needle through the rubber stopper, the seal is broken. Bacteriostatic water keeps the solution safer for multiple uses over days or weeks when refrigerated.
Regular sterile water lacks this preservative. Bacteriostatic water is the standard for multi-use reconstitution.
The actual process, conceptually
Reconstitution is dissolution. You're allowing the peptide powder to dissolve back into a liquid medium.
You want this to happen gently. Peptides don't respond well to violent shaking. The standard technique: inject BAC water slowly down the inside wall of the vial, let it flow over the powder, then swirl gently or let it sit until fully dissolved.
Once dissolved, you have a known concentration. If you add 2 mL of BAC water to a 5 mg vial, you have a solution of 2.5 mg per mL. Dosing becomes a matter of measuring volume with an insulin syringe.

Reconstitution is not activation. The peptide is the same molecule before and after. You're also not sterilizing—both the powder and the water are already sterile.
After reconstitution
Once mixed, the clock starts. Even with bacteriostatic water, peptides in solution degrade faster than powder. Refrigeration slows this, but most reconstituted peptides should be used within weeks. Store in the refrigerator, away from light, and avoid leaving them at room temperature longer than necessary.
